British Council’s EU-ACT Peer Review Session (Group 1)

Group 1 Peer Learning Session which was attended by Chukwu Ikechukwu & Diepiriye Queen of CHHELD on 7th March 2022 at 42 Patterson Street, Emma Estate, Okujiagu, Port Harcourt.

The topic for discussion was titled: Resource Mobilization for Emerging CSOs. The purpose of the peer review session was to share knowledge, enhance understanding and requirements for resource mobilization for emerging CSO’s. In the course of the discussion, the following sub topics were discussed, How to manage resources both human, material and financial resources, Risk management Analysis, importance of collaboration and partnership between CSOs.

Lauretta Ahuokpeme, gave the Group an insight into how her organization, ‘Connecting Peace Initiative (CPI)’ has managed to mobilize resources and stay afloat in spite of having no major donor at the moment. One of their strategy includes, writing letters to corporate organizations asking for support and partnership in their programmes. She also talked of her partnership with communities where she has programmes, with the communities providing some of the things needed, like halls, public address system and at times part of the refreshment, especially if the events coincides with their community activities. Another method she has adopted includes the use of volunteers for their project. However, the challenge with volunteers is the fact that some of them, also have financial challenges that affect their productivity. Collaborating or partnership with other CSOs is also a vital way of mobilizing resource, as you leverage on the resource and expertise of such organizations to achieve set goals at a minimal cost.

During contributions, it was suggested that courier accompanies can be used to deliver such letters for efficiency& feedback, as part of a strategy to beat the possibility of letters ending at the gate of prospective partners, it was also suggested that its best to do a little bit of research to know organizations that would likely align with CSOs thematic areas and give such organization more focus with intentions to work with them. The program was hosted by Connecting Peace Initiatives (CPI).
