CHHELD AND AND THE ADVOCATES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY (ALAT) TEAM FROM OBUAMA AND IPOKUMA (DEGEMA CONSULATE) COMMUNITIES IN DEGEMA LGA, RIVERS STATE PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE DEGEMA LGA CHAIRMAN AND STAFF ON THE 20TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2022.

The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the project “Improving citizens participation in local government administration in Rivers State” and the ALAT team working in the 2 communities. The Executive Director of CHHELD, Dandyson Harry Dandyson introduced the project which is been funded by the British Council and EU-ACT and some of the activities carried out in course of the project such as the Town hall meetings, 2-days capacity training on Local government administration and budgetary processes for the ALAT members and training of ALAT members on how to conduct the NEEDS Assessment using the Participatory Vulnerability Analysis (PVA) and Participatory Research and Action (PRA). The Executive Director of CHHELD urged the local government to apply and partner with local and foreign donors in order to get counterpart funding for the execution of projects in Degema Local Government Area. 

In his response, the Degema LGA chairman, Hon. Michael J. Williams thanked the delegation for the visit and the EU-ACT and British Council for bringing the project to Degema LGA. He pledged to grant the requests presented by the ALAT team and also to include the results that will be gotten from the NEEDS Assessment in the two targeted communities in the 2023 appropriation bill. He also appointed the Council Secretary, Hon. Nicholas Stephen Harry to relate and interface with CHHELD and the ALAT team on behalf of the council and also be present in the activities carried out by CHHELD and the ALAT team of Obuama and Ipokuma communities and report back to him.
