Comrade Dumnamene Fyneface stated that the program aims at looking at the climate change issue plaguing the world, the possibility of mitigating impact of climate change, create public awareness and train people to adapt to the environmental and climatic changes. YEAC which is part of the climate change consortium is implementing the project in Gokana LGA of Rivers State, which is one of the LGAs affected by the adverse effects of climate change and environmental pollution (See https://www.unep.org/explore-topics/disasters-conflicts/where-we-work/nigeria/environmental-assessment-ogoniland-report).

Human activities contributes more to climate change, these activities include the setting ablaze of illegal refining, gas flaring from multi-national companies, etc

Mr. Alex Marquex stated that is important for citizens to adapt to climate change. Adaptation will come as a result of educating and creating awareness on climate change. Citizens of the world should be taught, prepared and their resilience built to battle the effects of climate change. Climate change advocates are those who speak to influence the decisions of government and non-state actors against contributing to climate change. Mr. Fyneface Dumnamene warned against the settling ablaze of tankers and indiscriminate discharge of confiscated petroleum product in the environment. He advised that petroleum products should be safely discharged into the nearest tank farm of refining, and tankers should be put on auction and not set ablaze. Climate change advocates are organizing town hall and consultative meetings to educate citizens on ways to adapt to climate change and learn better ways of living to minimize climate change, such as recycling and reducing use of plastic, use of energy bulbs, responsible and minimized use of waster, etc

Mr. Dandyson Harry Dandyson expressed his displeasure with the outcome and resolutions of COP27, as none of the goals were reached or a definite stand/resolution taken. However, COP27 saw significant progress on adaptation, with governments agreeing on the way to move forward on the Global Goal on Adaptation, which will conclude at COP28 and inform the first Global Stocktake, improving resilience amongst the most vulnerable also regional government and development agencies pleged more than 230 million US dollars to the adaptation fund, stating that there is a need to increase investment on renewable energy from 4trillion to 6 trillion US dollars.

Mr. Dandyson Harry Dandyson called on the media to collaborate with climate change advocates and other partners by giving free airtime for public enlightenment on Climate Change. He also encouraged individuals to try alternative source of power in renewable energy sources such as solar power that mitigate climate change which reduce the use of fossil fuel illegal refining of petroleum products.
