Group 1 Peer Learning Session attended by Communication Officer Diepiriye Queen & Program Assistant Prince David (CHHELD) on Tuesday 22nd February, 2022 at the Advocacy Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The peer review session was sponsored by the British Councils EU-ACT.
The topic of discussion was titled: Collaboration & Competition in the Civic Space. The purpose of the session was to share knowledge, enhance understanding of the importance and urgency of need for Healthy Competition and foster collaboration amongst E.U supported CSOs/NGOs. The peer learning session provided relevant information on need for healthy competition as a necessity to checkmate NGOs in order for growth to materialize. For upcoming organizations, a healthy competition can be in form of aspiration or a wake up call to be upright as other developing organisations.
Also, the benefits of a healthy competition as it brings about innovation, capacity and accountability. The session also discussed collaboration, which is seen as a deliberate effort to work with others with the aim of achieving a set goal (teamwork). The benefits of collaboration includes promotion of inclusion, visibility and credibility amongst CSOs/NGOs.
Also discussed is why collaborations fail, this is because of lack of proper agreement, unclear goals, lack of clarity of vision, hidden personal interest and lack of discipline. The need for collaboration was encouraged between NGOs.
