CHHELD Joins Tax Walkathon in Port Harcourt
On February 28, 2025, CHHELD participated in the Tax Walkathon organized by the Rivers State Tax Justice and Governance Platform to raise awareness about multiple and illegal taxation affecting small businesses and informal sector operators in Rivers State.
The Walkathon aimed to:
✔️ Promote fair and progressive taxation that does not stifle businesses.
✔️ Advocate for a simplified and harmonized tax system to ease the burden on entrepreneurs.
✔️ Call for stronger enforcement of the *5224# tax payment platform to curb illegal levies.
Speaking at the event, Kelechi Ameachi, the platform’s Coordinator, emphasized the need for the Rivers State Government to enforce the *5224# platform to prevent businesses from being subjected to excessive tax demands.
“The government must not only introduce reforms but also enforce them. Businesses need a fair tax system to thrive, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth.”
CHHELD remains committed to economic justice, fair taxation, and ease of doing business. We urge the government to take urgent action to protect businesses, boost economic activities, and restore trust in governance.
