The event started at around 9AM daily and had about 27 civil society organizations (CSOs) in attendance.
Iliya Yohanna (Advocacy and Engagement Advisor SCALE) welcomed the participants and gave a brief over view of the SCALE project and cluster Approach strategy and what the training was hoping to achieve he stated that the USAID-funded Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) project has as its objective to partner with indigenous partners and resource partners, strengthen the managerial, technical,and advocacy capacities of Civil Society Organizations and Business Membership Organizations (CSOs/BMOs) to create a more accountable, transparent, peaceful, and democratic Nigeria with more effective and efficient public service delivery.
He further explained that the training is targeted at skill-building in advocacy strategy needed to effectively influence policy design, and implementation as well as understanding how to develop a viable strategic advocacy plan based on a clear analysis of need, opportunities, and power dynamics.
Francis Ademola the Resource person then proceeded to begin with the first sessions of the day by starting with introductions and a pre and post test after which the first lecture of the day was taken.
Day One activities include:
1) Introduction to Advocacy fundamentals
2) Advocay and related Concepts
3) Advocacy process
Day two Activities were:
1) Using Data in Advocay
2) Defining the Advocacy Issue
3)Setting the Advocacy Goals and Objectives
4) Advocacy Communication(Advcacy message and Methods,Increasing Message effectiveness)
Day Three activities were:
1)Developing Advocacy Materials(Press releases,Opinion polls,Policy briefs etc)
2) Advocacy strategies put together
3) Action Plannning.
The event came to an end with pictures and photographs taken.
