On the 24th day of January 2024, CHHELD embarked on a visit to Newlife Baptist Schools to commemorate the International Day for Education. David Prince, CHHELD program officer, took center stage to enlighten the students on the theme, “Learning for Lasting Peace.”
During his engaging presentation, Mr. Prince not only stressed the importance of staying informed about global challenges but delved deeper into the pressing issue of bullying. He elucidated on the detrimental effects of bullying on individuals and the broader community, emphasizing the need for a collective commitment to eradicate this pervasive problem.

In addressing the students, Mr. Prince underscored the significance of fostering a culture of respect and understanding. He articulated the need for students to actively share knowledge with their peers, while respecting and celebrating diversity encompassing aspects such as race, gender, background, and religion. The importance of countering hate speech and promoting an environment free from bullying and sexual harassment was passionately conveyed.
Specific attention was given to the sensitive issue of bullying, where Mr. Prince advocated for a zero-tolerance approach. He emphasized the detrimental impact of bullying on the well-being of individuals and the overall harmony of the school community. Practical strategies for combating bullying were discussed, including fostering a supportive environment, encouraging open communication, and empowering bystanders to take a stand against such behavior. The extended discussion on bullying served as a poignant reminder of the need for continuous dialogue and concerted efforts to create a safe and inclusive educational environment. The event, encompassing a comprehensive exploration of critical issues, undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the school community, fostering a commitment to positive change and harmonious coexistence.

Mr. Prince also highlighted the significance of respecting personal boundaries and extending support to those with special needs, including persons living with disabilities and females during their menstrual period. Transitioning seamlessly through his discourse, he urged students to reject social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and exam malpractices, promoting an environment of mutual respect and responsibility.
Moreover, the students were encouraged to engage in prayer for lasting peace globally, within their families, and in the school community. Expressing gratitude for the students’ attentive participation, Mr. David Prince commended their willingness to embrace the valuable insights shared during the session.
As the meeting drew to a close, the impact of the event resonated not only with the 150 students and teachers present, but also with the two CHHELD staff members present.
