CHHELD commemorates World Menstrual Hygiene Day 28th May 2022 in partnership with CCDS and partook in Sustainable Menstrual Hygiene Project Launch.

In commemoration of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022, the Centre for Creative Development Strategies (CCDS) in Partnership with CHHELD, Rotary International, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Kebetkatche Women Development and Resource Centre, Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, Rivers State Ministry of Health (RSMOH), D-ability Initiative, etc organized an event to enlighten the public on the importance of promoting menstrual hygiene for women and girls.

The event was also a launch of the Body-Bold Eco pads. The Body-Bold Eco pad is a durable and reusable sanitary pad that is estimated to be used for a period of 2 years. The pads are seen to be economical and environmental friendly, as they save women money from purchasing expensive menstrual pads every month, and it reduces pollution to the environment.

The keynote address of the event was by the Director of Kebetkatche Women and Resource Centre, Chief Emem Okon. In her address, she pointed out the importance of the society paying particular attention to menstruation, debunked the myths and misconceptions on menstruation and the need for support from the men in the society.

In the course of the event, there was a plenary session moderated by the Executive Director of CHHELD, Dandyson Harry Dandyson to discuss the role of stakeholders in ensuring menstrual justice in Nigeria. Stakeholders in sectors such as Education, Health, Media and Environment highlighted the importance of advocating and promoting a just society where women are supported during menstruation. Dr. Vetty Agala, a representative of the Permanent Secretary of RSMOH highlighted the safe methods and hygienic practices women should imbibe during menstruation in order to prevent diseases, infections and other complications.

Another highlight of the event was the lecture on the use of the Body-bold Eco Pads by the Executive Director of CCDS, Mrs. Nancy Iheduru and the presentation of sanitary pads to female students and women by partnering organizations such as Kebetkatche Women Development and Resource Centre, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, CHHELD amongst others.
